Tournament Basic Info

Welcome to the annual Kingston International Youth Hockey Festival. We want to make this event exciting for families, friends, coaches, managers and young prospects. 

Team Entry fee:  $ 999 ($50 reduction/team if you register more than 2 teams from the same organization) Click here to register.

Individual Player registration: $ 125 for 4 games min & 6 games max. (Click here to register)

Deadline is April 30th 2009 but we may be full by then so register early. We already have commitments from teams in Toronto, Montreal, Ottawa, NY, VT, NJ, CT, and overseas.

Schedule: 3-5 July 2009

Levels: A/AA teams for Boys "born 2003/2002, 2001, 2000, 1999, & 1998"; and for Girls: U8 & U10.
 
TOURNAMENT FORMAT

Preliminary rounds

  • 4 games guarantee and "(2) 18-minutes periods stopped-time". No overtime.

  • Games 1, 2, & 3: first "18-minutes period stopped -time" will be "4-on-4 Game"; and second "18-minutes period stopped -time" will be "5-on-5 Game" for all levels, except 2002, 2001, 2000.

  • Game 4 will be 5-on-5 Game for all levels".

  • One "25-second timeout" will be permitted by each team.

  • Pre-game warm-up will be three minutes non-stopped time focusing on skating and puck skills.

  • No overtime for all levels.

Playoff Format

  • The four teams in each division advance to the Playoff Round if more than 6 teams in the same division for each level. If not, only 2 teams will advance if 4 teams in that division.
  • Each playoff game will consist of "(2) 15-minute periods" stopped -time with "5-on-5 Game" format. There will be overtime and shootout until there is a winner and a loser. Pre-game warm-ups will be three minutes.
  • One "25-second timeout" will be permitted by each team.                                                UP

TOURNAMENT RULINGS

We encourage all team managers and coaches to read carefully the tournament rules:

  1. Every team must dress a minimum of 10 players and 1 goaltender, and one 25-second time out per team per game will be permitted. No Protests will be accepted.

  2. Mouthpieces and Neck guards are required from all Canadian, American, and Overseas players at all levels. 

  3. Each team will play a minimum of four games and all preliminary round games will be two periods of eighteen minutes stopped time. Pre-game warm-ups will be three minutes non-stopped time.

  4. A player can only play for one team and in only one level/category during this tournament weekend, failure to do so will disqualify the said player.

  5. Body contact will be permitted at all levels, except Novice and Atom levels.

  6. Minor penalties will be 2 minutes and Major penalties will be 5 minutes.

  7. "Clean Hockey": A Major penalty and a Game Misconduct penalty will be assessed to any player who "intent to hurt" such as "Charging/Checking from behind if it results in injury", "Spearing", Kicking or Kneeing. A second Game Misconduct penalty by the same player will be ejected from the tournament. There will be no discussion on players or ejection from games. 

  8. Each team should be ready to play 12 minutes PRIOR to their scheduled start times. A team that does not present itself to a game will be subjected to a disciplinary committee and subject to expulsion from the tournament. A defaulted game result will be 2 - 0 for the winning team and 5 – 0 result to the loosing team.

  9. The point system for teams ranking in the standings will be as follow: 2 points for a WIN, 1 point for a TIE, & 0 point for a LOSS.

  10. If there is a tie game at the end of regulation time during the tournament playoffs, the following overtime rules will apply: a) One, Five minute sudden-death periods.  Three on Three + Goaltender and b) Shootout: Three penalty shots to each team. Should tie persist, one penalty shot each until there is a winner. You have to use a different player for each shot until all players have been used.

  11. Should an “act of god” happen (power failure, major injury …), after ˝ hour the game will be called and the score remain as is no matter how long the game was running at the time of the “act of god”.

  12. If a difference of six goals or more exists at any time from the beginning of the 2nd period on, the remainder of the game will be of running time. The time will stop again should the differential be reduced to a 2 goal differential (ex. 6-4).

  13. In the event of a tie for a playoff seed, the following criteria will apply to determine the team's ranking in the standings:

  • a) Head-to-Head

  • b) Best differential (Formula: BR= GF/(GF+GA) where GF: Goals For and GA: Goals Against

  • c) Least goals Against

  • d) Most goals For

  • e) Least Penalty minutes during the tournament

  • f) Fastest goal between the teams concerned

  • g) Flip of a coin

  Please respect the referees at all times, should you have a situation you would like to discuss concerning a particular individual, we have appointed a referee in chief who is available to you, he does not have the power to change a referees decision. However, we have advised our refereeing staff to treat coaches with respect and they will expect the same in return. They will not exercise any patience when being sworn, screamed or gestured at.  At all times, the direction of this tournament reserves itself the final word on the interpretation of the rules.
