Proceeds for the
Breast Cancer Society in Kingston
The Direction of the Kingston International Youth Hockey Festival is
proud to contribute financially to the Breast Cancer Action Kingston
organization. Some proceeds from the entrance fee will be returned for a
good community cause...
Breast Cancer Action Kingston (BCAK) strives to
meet the needs of women diagnosed with breast cancer. A local survivor
led charitable organization it has been in Kingston 15 years serving
women living within 150 km.
At the core of BCAK’s services is personal
support. Group support meetings are held
bi-monthy by facilitators trained in peer support. One on one support is
also available. The Lymphedema support group is designed for
information and support dealing with this condition. A general healing
retreat is held in August of each year.
One of the most popular programs is Chestmates, a
survivor dragon boat team. This program provides great physical exercise
and develops continued support. Exercise and yoga classes are also
available and all programs are offered free of charge.
BCAK office houses an extensive library of books,
CD’s and DVD’s which are available for loan. Further education if
offered through an annual Education Night in April, a speaker at the AGM
in October, TODAY our quarterly newsletter and ongoing
gatherings.
The office at 1379 Princess Street Suite 105 is
open Tuesday through to Friday from 11:45-3:45. We may be reached at
613-531-7912. Also visit our website at
www.bcakingston.org and learn much more about this local
organization serving the needs of all women in the area with a diagnosis
of breast cancer at any time in their lives. Membership in BCAK is
available at $25.00 per year.
We can surf their web site to learn more about their
annual
programs and events and we encourage all local residents and
participants in our hockey/sports festival to participate for a good
cause. Thanks!
